I feel it is only appropriate to really dig in to my MARKINGS observations by writing about my designer crushes – Ray & Charles Eames. From my first semester of graduate school when I dissected their historic house in Pacific Palisades, I have had a deep respect for this design team.  Check out the Eames Foundation website for more information on this house, their architecture and design. http://www.eamesfoundation.org/eames-house-history . Their innovative use of materials in their furniture designs was appropriate in post-war America.  They created affordable, comfortable, and beautiful pieces of furniture out of materials that were readily available. Look around you; start to notice the furniture that you interact with daily. Observe design details and patterns, even the most minute. Recognize the materials in which the interior objects that you use are made of. This is something that I enjoy doing which I am excited to share with you through “Markings”; a venue to post my observations about design, focusing on furniture design. Markings are all around us; in the foot a armoire, in the curve of a chair seat, in a cross brace on a console table, in the styling of leather upholstery , and in the use and application of materials.
